CBS News is seeking a Coordinating Producer for our White House unit with strong editorial, logistical and communication skills. The candidate will need to organize editorial coverage across the beat, manage schedules for correspondents and producers, plan long-term field assignments for domestic and foreign trips and collaborate with senior management. The Coordinating Producer will need to travel, gather news, and produce segments for CBS News platforms from time to time. Our ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years of TV journalism experience (including some covering politics), and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced news environment. They must possess excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to multitask and demonstrate strong initiative. The candidate should be comfortable working in a collaborative manner, show a strong work ethic and an enthusiasm for news, storytelling and directing a team.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of 3-4 correspondents and 7-8 producers/reporters

  • Provide steady, persistent editorial leadership and direction for team members
  • Organize and clearly communicate daily schedules and assignments
  • Plan unilateral coverage of foreign and domestic travel
  • Coordinate with bureau management on long-term goals
  • Write, produce, and file for CBS News platforms from time to time
  • Some travel expected, based on unit needs
  • Appropriately represent CBS News in public settings including social media

 

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Minimum 10+ years working at a news organization with proven experience reporting in the field and newsroom; management experience a bonus.

  • College Degree in broadcast journalism, history, or political science or related field preferred, but not required.
  • Strict adherence to the highest journalistic standards with outstanding reporting and writing skills
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks and responsibilities
  • Ability to work long hours as news dictates which could include working on regular days off, weekends and overnight, with short notice
  • Ability to occasionally travel on short notice both domestically and internationally
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to listen and receive feedback
  • Valid driver's license required

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

 

Hiring Salary Range: $140,000.00 - 165,000.00. 

 

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.  The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable,  as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement.
