Overview and Responsibilities:
CBS Atlanta is looking for an ambitious and hardworking Associate Producer with a strong commitment to journalism to join its exciting startup news operation! This is an opportunity to create multi-media content and be part of an innovative team. You will cover a broad range of hyper-local Atlanta stories as well as touch state, national and international stories in a fast-paced, collaborative newsroom. You will assist producers with newscasts and segments seen across on-air and streaming. This includes writing and researching stories, formatting scripts, editing video, selecting soundbites, and building graphics. You may also be tapped to produce news cutins. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about being part of a room of fresh thinkers that’s serving Atlanta and meeting the audience wherever they are.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Write and edit news using compelling video and sound to help tell the story across all platforms, customizing for the audiences in each space.
- Research and produce compelling stories and segments that include eye-catching graphics, effective use of maps and headline-grabbing banners.
- Stay on top of the news cycle, including key developments in assigned stories.
- Exhibit strong editorial judgment, effective communication, and critical thinking skills.
- Work closely with producers and managers in the control room with the ability to add to the editorial process in a breaking and live news environment.
- Produce news cutins in a full AR/VR studio environment, when assigned.
- Participate in daily staff editorial and production meetings.
- Be a student of CBS standards, rights and clearances standard operating procedures.
Basic Qualifications:
- 3+ years newsroom writing experience
- Impeccable grammar, spelling, and attention to detail in all content produced
- Ability to multi-task and thrive in a dynamic, quickly changing environment is essential
Additional Qualifications:
- Degree in broadcast journalism or related field preferred
- Understanding the power of conversational writing and authenticity
- Knowledge of the Atlanta community is a plus
- Willingness and flexibility to work a variety of different shifts, overnight and weekend responsibilities
