Portfolio Sales Manager 

Location: Bryanston, South Africa    

Department: Commercial



To pro-actively sell Paramount advertising solutions to current and new clients and maintain good customer and staff relationships, both internally and externally. To implement the Sales Strategy and manage a portfolio, while taking care of the team to attain their sales objectives and profitability.


  • Qualification: Matric. A Diploma would be advantageous. 
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years in Advertising Sales environment
  • Language: Excellent written and verbal command of English.
  • Industry: Previous experience in presenting and selling advertising to agencies and clients in the broadcasting space.
  • Communication: The candidate must be a strong communicator with excellent interpersonal skills, able to establish good relationships with internal and external contacts of all professional levels. The candidate must also have strong presentation skills and be able to captivate an audience.
  • Skills: Account Management and Analytical essential.
  • Other: The candidate must be polished, intelligent, self motivated, creative, professional and pro-active. The successful incumbent will be a person who enjoys thinking creatively to meet client’s needs while enhancing the Networks’ position.


  • Achieve Monthly Individual and Portfolio Sales Budgets and Targets
  • Achieve Monthly KPI’s
  • To equally promote and sell across all Paramount Africa platforms.
  • Formulate accurate Weekly, Quarterly and Annual Tracking Reports to achieve Targets.
  • Implement Sales Strategy 
  • Day to Day Management of Portfolio team
  • Develop, maintain and grow existing Portfolio through excellent client service and a focused Client Relationships.
  • Work with the National Sales Manager to define and Implement a New Business Development Strategy as well as missing business objectives.


Main Outputs and Responsibilities

•    Meet Individual and Agency Portfolio Targets as set by Management.
•    Accountable for performance and achievement of target for Portfolio Sales Team across all areas.
•    Realise MAXIMUM INCOME from respective individual and Portfolio.
o    Develop and grow existing business.
o    Identify and develop new business.
o    Missing business reports for Portfolio    
•    Manage Portfolio and Targets.
•    Day to day Management of Portfolio
•    Monitor and manage the Portfolio Team across all deliverables i.e. Call Rates, Proposals, Prospecting, Performance etc.
•    Ensure that the Portfolio Team delivers what Paramount Africa promises.
•    Ensure that the Portfolio Team deliver exceptional customer service.
•    Ensure that correct sales processes flow to other relevant divisions. 
•    Ensure the agency team follows all Sales Department Admin procedures correctly, accurately and timeously. 
•    Submit Updated Weekly Sales Numbers to Management 
•    Ensure the Portfolio updates the Salesforce. 
•    Develop well thought out business plans and account profiles and execute sales strategies to achieve planned targeted revenue for those product lines responsible for.
•    Accountability to Management and appropriateness of Sales Expense allocation.
•    Accountability to Management and appropriateness of your time spent during working hours.
•    Ensure Electronic Diary / default diary is always up to date.
•    Report on Business Lost. 
•    Ensure Quality Control of all Proposals and Presentations.
•    Ensure the Portfolio Team develop and maintain a Database of correct information about clients, budget, planning period and media activity.
•    Weekly reporting on all sales calls, competitor activity and general market intelligence.
•    Prepare, follow up and continuously update a Sales Action Plan working 3 months in advance. 
•    Maintain and develop relationships with Agencies and Clients at a Senior and Management level.
•    Identify Key Customers and Accounts and together with the team strategically plan and build strong business relationships with these customers.
•    Build good relationships with clients and staff both externally and internally.
•    Attend client and industry functions on a regular basis.
•    Work together with Management and Marketing to implement appropriate entertainment/relationship building program/plan for clients.
•    Present a professional and positive image as a representative of Viacom.
•    Maintain integrity of the company at all times.
•    Develop overall knowledge and understanding of all media.
•    Deliver what you promise – ensure your team get back to clients timeously and accurately. (Within 48 hours)
•    Flexibility in meeting the client needs – ability to negotiate a win/win business solution.
•    Develop knowledge of your own and competitor products.
•    Innovative and pro-active – expend time and energy on creative solutions to meet the client needs.
•    Competitive and enthusiastic – going the extra mile to win business from competitors.
•    Prepare and present presentations.
•    Ensure knowledge and understanding of client’s business – fully comprehending the sales process.
•    The ability to effectively sell Business Solutions across all community station platforms.
•    Meet all MOST AWARDS criteria as detailed by Management.
•    Work together with Trade Marketing to Plan and organize specific industry presentations, Research, etc. once a Quarter.
•    Work with Trade Marketing to ensure regular Sales presentations to Key Decision Makers including Brand Managers, Marketing Managers and Media planners/Strategists/Buyers.
•    Work with Trade Marketing to clearly communicate expectations regarding content of presentations.
•    Keep Management informed wherever relevant.
•    Keep the Portfolio Sales Team informed wherever relevant.
•    Keep other Divisions informed wherever relevant.
•    Ability to resolve complaints and queries effectively.
•    Show mutual respect and tolerance and work with the Team to ensure achievement of overall goal. 
•    Share knowledge and client relationships for the good of the National Team
•    Ensure the minimum weekly call rates set by management are achieved with regards to weekly appointments and prospecting.
•    Monitor and manage the performance, call rates and tracking of the sales team at all times and implement corrective action where necessary.
•    Ensure consistent Missing Business Drives, prospecting and developing of the missing Business Strategies.
