Is this the role for you?  

The role sits within CBS Studios International, and you will be reporting into the SVP, Intl Co-Pros, who reports into the President of CBS Studios. 

 

The Development Executive will work closely with the SVP and team to support the development slate, contribute to projects, and facilitate the efficient running of the department. 

 

This role will support the development of new and existing projects, including input on script drafts for current shows, reading books and spec scripts and providing feedback, working closely with writers, maintaining relationships with agents, writers and producers to bring in key talent, using editorial instinct to identify potential projects for development.

 

What will you be doing?  

  • Undertaking day to day development tasks to keep the department running smoothly, assessing priorities, and taking appropriate action 

  • Generating new series ideas from inception—including sourcing IP, spec scripts, distribution opportunities, co-production opportunities, etc. 

  • Reading and feeding back on book and script submissions  

  • Giving notes to writers on multiple drafts throughout development and pre-production and advising on process; turning around notes in a timely and professional manner and following up via calls as necessary 

  • Preparing submissions for cast, directors, and potential buyers 

  • Editorial and creative input on shows in production 

  • Frequently meeting with producers and agents to build and maintain relationships and solicit new material 

  • Using editorial instinct and knowledge of the current slate and requirements to assess whether scripts or books should be considered for development 

  • Undertaking research on projects where required in support of new or existing developments 

  • Attending events, performances, shows, etc. to discover new and upcoming talent 

 

What are we looking for?  

  • A passion for scripted television with a demonstrable interest in literature, theatre and film 

  • Knowledge of the development and production process and ability to implement the skills and support required at each individual stage  

  • Encyclopedic knowledge of UK writer 

  • Ability to demonstrate sound editorial judgement and sensitivity, both verbally and on paper 

  • Strong attention to detail, high standard of literacy, and ability to reliably proofread  

  • Excellent administrative and organisational skills  

  • Ability to work unsupervised, exercising initiative and assessing priorities but referring issues upwards where appropriate  

  • Ability to work as part of a team providing support and assistance as required  

  • Familiarity with the Microsoft Office suite  

  • Highly self-motivated and enthusiastic team player with resilience to pressured environments and able to react and adapt flexibly  

  • An ambition to learn and develop career skills, abilities and experience
