Is this the role for you?
This is a hands-on, shift- based, position responsible for maintaining the technical integrity of a baseband video/audio and IT infrastructure at a major broadcast operations centre. Individual is to ensure that all broadcast technical areas and services are provided to the highest technical standards, and complete specific routine tasks as detailed by the Manager of LMC Technical Operations and Systems Engineering teams.
What will you be doing?
- Provide technical support for all Broadcast Services related infrastructure, traditional playout systems, cloud-based video playout systems, distribution, and streaming technology to ensure the highest possible levels of technical and operational continuity to the Paramount International Networks services and client networks by maintaining core infrastructure and system health, signal path integrity and signal quality throughout. The individual will also play a critical role in supporting highly secure and highly scalable solutions for application systems that are hosted on-prem or in public cloud (Azure, AWS and Google Cloud)
- Provide additional support for non-linear workflows and systems. Primarily various transcoding farms, autoQC and orchestration tools. This includes, but is not limited to, hardware, software agents, encoding, file codecs, subtitling and transcoding related issues
- Operational first line support to MCR and Distribution 24x7 and escalation to relevant team(s) during service issues.
- Ability to author well-written, detail-oriented technical documentation
- Ability to use a wide-array of software and hardware tools to analyse and troubleshoot network health and the flow of media streams in the baseband and IP domains
- Ability to work both independently and lead a team on assignments and report back on progress
- Adhere to relevant policies and procedures
- Continually evaluate and develop ideas for how to modernize and improve upon Paramount’s Broadcast and Technical Support services, including legacy processes, manual checklist automation, and service monitoring within the broadcast and infrastructure environments
- Ensure completion of all administration and documentation pertaining to work carried out
- Ensure that open faults are logged, resolved or escalated, using Paramount incident management software
- Escalate to Engineering Support and Infrastructure teams during incidents or loss of services
- Escalate to Paramount Management during incidents or loss of services
- Interface with and understand complex compression and multiplex systems
- Interface with and understand signal distribution and conversion equipment
- Liaise with the Systems Engineering teams to accept new documentation and training
- Liaise with third-party distribution vendors to resolve issues reported back from affiliates
- Perform configuration and troubleshooting of complex broadcast playout support systems, including, but not limited to baseband video/audio, encoding, multiplexing, and RF
- Perform configuration and troubleshooting of infrastructure equipment. This includes, but is not limited to servers, mass storage devices, broadcast proprietary devices, and IT infrastructure equipment
- Perform configuration and troubleshooting of networking devices. This includes, but is not limited to CLI-based device IP setup, firewall troubleshooting, VLAN and subnet configuration issues, identifying network routing problems, and multicast related issues
- Perform configuration and troubleshooting of operating systems. This includes, but is not limited to Windows, Linux, Unix, MAC, and RTOS based systems
- As part of the team, provide support 24 hours per day, 365 per year. Support may entail phone conference, remote support sessions, or physical presence at the facility for equipment failure or other critical outages impacting Paramount’s systems
- Respond to technical emergencies; address prompt restoration of network outages
- Strong organizational and planning skills with ability to manage multiple mission critical assignments
- Testing and certification of new installations or modifications
- Use of technical drawings and documents to conduct diagnostics while under stress to restore failed systems
- Work collaboratively with Para.mount’s L1, L2, and L3 teams for ticket escalations as well as to help develop documentation those teams can leverage for future incidents
What are we looking for?
- HND Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent required. BSc Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or similar preferred
- 3 to 5 years’ experience in Information Technology or Broadcast Media environment
- Ability to learn and exhibit engineering-level understanding of a variety of complex broadcast proprietary and IT infrastructure environments
- Clear understanding of business impacted by Broadcast infrastructure
- Driven to complete assigned tasks in allotted time while maintaining detail precision
- Excellent communication skills, verbal, written and interpersonal skills
- Familiarity with Agile framework and methodology
- Flexible attitude to working practices and current technology
- Knowledge of ticketing systems, incident tracking, and ITIL terminology
- Knowledge of Datacentre operations
- Knowledge of Network Management Systems as well as the protocols and methods they utilize to monitor health
- Knowledge of operating system installation and scripted deployment tools
- Knowledge of remote support tools and out-of-band management, such as RDP, VNC, Telnet, and SSH
- Knowledge of TCP/IP protocol stack and OSI model
- Knowledge of virtual environments and cloud-based technological offerings, such as Amazon AWS, Google Cloud, and VMWare VCenter
- Self-motivated individual with prior experience working in a high-pressure environment delivering consistently sound judgment with mission critical assignments
- Willingness to learn specific support profiles, with an emphasis on broadcasting and transmission technologies
