Overview:
The Director of Creative Music at Paramount Pictures serves as a key creative partner across the studio's theatrical slate, supporting filmmakers and creative leadership in the development and execution of music for feature films.
As an in-house music supervisor, this role oversees all creative music elements. This includes everything from the early development stages to the final delivery. The goal is to make sure that the music in each film enhances the storytelling and supports the filmmaker's vision.
 
This position, based out of Los Angeles, works closely with directors, producers, composers, artists, and internal studio partners to deliver high-quality, filmmaker-driven music for Paramount Pictures’ theatrical releases.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Partner with directors, producers, and studio creative executives to shape and execute the musical vision for assigned theatrical films
  • Engage in projects early in development to provide creative guidance on score, source music, and overall music strategy
  • Serve as a trusted creative collaborator to filmmakers and talent throughout pre-production, production, and post-production.
  • Advocate for the filmmaker’s creative vision while ensuring alignment with Paramount Pictures’ production goals and creative standards
  • Act as the in-house music supervisor for assigned Paramount Pictures theatrical film
  • Oversee all creative music elements including score, source music, needle drops, themes, and temp music.
  • Supervise spotting sessions, music reviews, and creative discussions with filmmakers and post-production teams
  • Ensure music choices support narrative, tone, and emotional impact
  • Identify, recommend, and help secure composers and music collaborators in partnership with filmmakers
  • Guide composers creatively throughout the scoring process, maintaining clear communication between creative and post-production team
  • Build and maintain solid relationships with composers, artists, music editors, and scoring partners.
  • Oversee music workflows through production and post-production, including scoring schedules, recording sessions, and final mixes
  • Attend scoring sessions, dubbing sessions, and final mixes as appropriate
  • Ensure all music is creatively approved, delivered on time, and ready for theatrical release
  • Collaborate with internal Paramount Pictures teams including Production, Post-Production, Creative Affairs, Legal, Business Affairs, Finance, and Marketing
  • Partner with music clearance and licensing teams to balance creative ambition with budgetary and legal requirements
  • Support soundtrack, marketing, publicity, and awards initiatives tied to Paramount Pictures’ theatrical releases
 
Basic Qualifications:
  • 8+ years of experience in music supervision, film music, or creative music roles within a theatrical film or studio environment
  • Proven experience supervising music for feature films from development through post-production
  • Robust creative instincts with deep knowledge of film scoring and source music
  • Established relationships with composers, filmmakers, artists, and music industry partners
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple films simultaneously across a theatrical slate
 
Additional Qualifications:
  • Prior in-house studio experience at a major theatrical studio
  • Experience working directly with high-profile filmmakers and talent
  • Working knowledge of music licensing, clearance, and music budgeting

Hiring Salary Range: $120,000.00 - 140,000.00. 

 

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.  The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable,  as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement. This position is bonus eligible.
