In This Role You'll:


Paramount Tech is hiring a 403g Maintenance Technician responsible for maintenance and support of production and broadcast systems for the CBS Network and affiliated production units, providing critical 24x7 support for on-air and production infrastructure. This role covers hands-on troubleshooting and repair of routing systems, audio/video transport and IP media infrastructure (SDI and SMPTE 2110), production switchers, audio consoles, media file transfer and storage systems, video acquisition and playback servers, non-linear postproduction systems, production intercom, cameras, prompters, and other studio production systems, working to mitigate impact to production and on-air deadlines. This is a shift-based role covering rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays, with on-call/callback responsibilities per the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

 

Basic Qualifications You Bring:

 

•    3+ years' experience working with professional television broadcast equipment, with demonstrated ability to troubleshoot to the component/system level under time pressure, in a live production environment.
•    Hands-on experience with broadcast test equipment (waveform monitors, vector-scopes, audio analyzers, cable/fiber test sets) and cable/fiber termination and testing.
•    In-depth knowledge in of the following: Video, Audio, Cameras, Control/Data Systems, RF, Fiber-Optics, and IP media distribution (SMPTE 2110/2059).
•    Working knowledge of IP networking fundamentals — VLANs, subnetting, multicast, and basic switch/router configuration — sufficient to troubleshoot IP-based media infrastructure.
•    Strong understanding of broadcast media systems design and signal flow; ability to read and work from schematics and as-built documentation.
•    Experience with Windows, Linux, and macOS workstation/server environments as used in broadcast and postproduction facilities.
•    Ability to communicate technical root-cause and status updates clearly to non-technical production staff (directors, TDs, producers) during live troubleshooting.
•    Ability to perform physical work associated with rack and machine room environments, including lifting equipment and working in confined or elevated spaces.

 

Bonus Skills:

 

•    Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Broadcast Engineering, or IT preferred.
•    Direct experience with SMPTE ST 2110 (2110-20/30/40) and ST 2059 PTP timing in a production environment.
•    Scripting/automation experience (Python, JSON) for diagnostics, monitoring, or system integration.
•    Experience with virtualized and cloud-based media systems, including container management.
•    Familiarity with NMOS control/discovery frameworks in an IP media environment.
•    Familiarity with Evertz, Grass Valley routing systems; RTS intercom, Sony switchers and cameras, EVS, Grass Valley AMPP video playout/record servers a plus.

Hiring Salary Range: $31.10 - 65.52. 

 

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York City, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.  The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable,  as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement.
