Overview:

48 Hours is the award-winning CBS News series that investigates crime and justice stories with depth, humanity, and journalistic rigor. The program’s reporting has helped reopen cold cases, exonerate the wrongly convicted, and bring new understanding to complex investigations. The Associate Producer plays a key role in bringing these stories to life — helping uncover truth, give voice to those at the center of each case, and shape narratives that stay with audiences long after they air. The role calls for curiosity, editorial integrity, and collaboration to uphold 48 Hours’ standard of excellence and signature storytelling style.
 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Research and develop story ideas focused on crime and justice
  • Gather and organize footage, documents, and background materials for producers and correspondents
  • Prepare outlines, background packets, and interview briefs
  • Coordinate logistics for field and studio shoots, including travel, locations, and production support
  • Partner with Rights and Clearances to obtain materials and permissions
  • Fact check scripts and story elements for accuracy and alignment with CBS News standards
  • Collaborate with editors, producers, and digital teams to shape storytelling across platforms
  • Contribute to digital and promotional content that enhances the show’s reach
  • Build effective relationships with colleagues, contributors, and external contacts
  • Handle sensitive material with discretion, empathy, and professionalism

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of production experience
  • Background in journalism or investigative storytelling 
  • Editorial judgment, accuracy, and attention to detail
  • Experience in research, fact checking, or story development within a newsroom, documentary, or long form production setting
  • Must be willing to travel as needed, including ability to drive to assignment locations 
  • Valid Driver's license

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

 

Hiring Salary Range: $67,000.00 - 75,000.00. 

 

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.  The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable,  as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement.
