60 Minutes is CBS News’ iconic news magazine, renowned for its investigative reporting, compelling storytelling, and interviews with influential newsmakers. For decades, the program has set the standard for rigorous journalism, uncovering important truths, holding powerful institutions accountable, and bringing audiences a deeper understanding of the people, issues, and events shaping the world.
 
60 Minutes is seeking an Associate Producer to join its dynamic team and support the producer/correspondent team in delivering the groundbreaking journalism that has defined the show for decades. The Associate Producer is a vital member of the broadcast team, supporting the development and production of stories that reflect 60 Minutes’ commitment to accuracy, fairness, and impact. This role requires well-developed editorial judgment, exemplary research skills, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced newsroom environment. The Associate Producer will work on-site at the historic CBS News Broadcast Center.
 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Collaborate with the producer and correspondent to pitch, research, develop, and advance story ideas across a wide range of subjects, including investigations, public affairs, business, science, culture, and global issues
  • Conduct in-depth background research and gather reporting materials, public records, documents, and archival content
  • Prepare comprehensive research memos, interview briefs, chronologies, and background packets for producers and correspondents
  • Help identify, vet, and pre-interview potential sources and contributors, and draft interview questions
  • Assist with field production, including coordinating shoots and interviews, and managing travel arrangements, logistics, and on-location reporting needs
  • Research, review, and clear archival and third-party materials, working closely with Rights & Clearances to secure footage, photographs, documents, and necessary permissions
  • Support script development and the scripting process; perform comprehensive fact-checking throughout and prepare a fully verified, footnoted final script prior to broadcast, in accordance with CBS News editorial standards
  • Collaborate with producers, correspondents, editors, and production teams throughout all stages of story development
  • Track developments on ongoing stories and monitor breaking news for potential enterprise opportunities
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with sources, experts, public officials, and colleagues
  • Handle sensitive information and high-profile subjects with discretion, sound judgment, and professionalism

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of television news, documentary, or related production experience, including primary source and international reporting
  • Well-developed editorial judgment and a commitment to accuracy, fairness, and journalistic integrity
  • Experience conducting research, fact-checking, booking, or story development in a newsroom, documentary, investigative, or long-form production environment
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience working with sensitive, complex, or high-profile subject matter
  • Proficiency with public and private records databases such as LexisNexis and PACER
  • Willingness and ability to travel as assignments require, including weekends and extended periods when necessary
 

Additional Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred
  • Exemplary organizational skills with the ability to multitask, manage multiple projects, and meet tight, competing deadlines
  • Demonstrated interest in investigative journalism, enterprise reporting, and in-depth storytelling
  • Ability to work collaboratively while remaining resourceful and proactive

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

 

Hiring Salary Range: $90,000.00 - 100,000.00. 

 

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.  The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable,  as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement.
