Overview

Paramount Global Publishing is seeking a skilled and highly collaborative Designer to join our growing Publishing Design team. This role will support the development of books and publishing experiences across Paramount’s iconic brands and emerging intellectual property.
The ideal candidate is a solid visual storyteller with experience in book publishing and has an interest for creating engaging content for audiences of all ages. This designer will contribute to projects that span a variety of formats, including but not limited to Art Books, Picture Books, Novels, 1-color & 4-color interiors, novelty, cookbooks, and more.
This is an exciting opportunity to help shape a new publishing program while working across some of the world’s most recognizable entertainment brands.
This role requires a deep knowledge of publishing, licensing, trend awareness, and the ability to manage complex workflows across global teams.
 

Responsibilities include but not limited to

  • Design compelling book covers, interiors, and supporting materials across a variety of formats and age categories.
  • An expert at designing complex interiors with style-guide and existing brand assets.
  • Collaborate with editorial, franchise/licensing, and production teams throughout the development process.
  • Knowledge of market trends, competitive titles, and emerging design opportunities.
  • Work with illustrators, photographers, and external creative partners to bring projects to life.
  • Prepare files for print and digital publishing formats.
  • Contribute to the development of visual systems, templates, and design guidelines that support brand consistency.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and production schedules.
  • Manage approvals for publishing partners:
  • Storybooks (original and style guide-based)
  • Chapter books, readers, and special formats (board, bath, cloth, wheel books)
  • Comics, graphic novels, coloring and activity books (with and without play elements)
  • Workbooks, sticker books, audio books, calendars, planners

 

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA, BFA) and/or equivalent design education.
  • 5+ years of experience in publishing design
  • Solid portfolio demonstrating excellence in book cover design, interior design (1-color and 4-color), typography, and visual storytelling.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite including InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop
  • Knowledge of print production, file preparation, color management, and publishing workflows.
  • Experience finding, hiring, collaborating with, and art directing illustrators.

 

Additional Qualifications

  • Ability to prioritize and manage time successfully.
  • Deep comprehension of licensing, brand storytelling, and creative approvals
  • Experience managing diverse product formats and categories
  • Forward-thinking and collaborative, with a solutions-focused mindset
  • Illustration, hand-lettering, and photo re-touching abilities are a plus.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

 

Hiring Salary Range: $65,000.00 - 100,000.00. 

 

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York City, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.  The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable,  as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement. This position is bonus eligible.
