The General Manager will run the business side of The Free Press day to day while also setting, guiding, and executing the strategy at a high level, in deep collaboration with editorial leadership of The Free Press. They will be responsible for developing and managing a high performing team that delivers operational excellence, analytical rigor, and best in class outcomes for all elements of the business. This person has a passion for the work of The Free Press and is committed to building and constantly evolving the infrastructure to support the editorial work of the company.
Responsibilities:
- Work with the masthead leadership team to set and execute company priorities across existing and new business lines, distribution, and partnerships
- Own the company's operating plan, budgets, and P&L; be accountable for revenue, costs, and margin across subscriptions, advertising / sponsorships, events, and all other business lines
- Lead and manage a team across finance, operations, sales / events, growth, product, and all other business side functions that support the growth of an editorial product
- Oversee the development of real processes and infrastructure that enable the company to scale without losing the scrappiness of a startup
- Represent the business side of The Free Press internally and externally to all necessary stakeholders
- Serve as an in-office leader and culture carrier
- Craft and implement a vision for using AI to improve the operating cadence of the company
Qualifications:
- 13+ years of experience in strategy, operations, finance, or general management, with previous P&L ownership necessary
- A proven track record of growing a business unit, managing high performing teams, negotiating deals, and developing talent
- Experience in media, publishing, or another subscription business is preferred
- A network in media, advertising, or events that the company can draw on is preferred

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Hiring Salary Range: $325,000.00 - 375,000.00.
The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York City, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement. This position is bonus eligible.
