Overview:

The Free Press is looking for a Growth Marketer to help drive subscriber acquisition and retention across our fastest-growing channels. We're looking for a hands-on marketing tactician: someone who can plan, launch, and optimize campaigns across paid and owned channels, while using data to know what's working and why. You'll blend creative instinct with a rigorous, test-and-learn mindset to help scale The Free Press's subscriber base. Our ideal candidate is also passionate about using emerging AI tools to move faster, building campaigns, analyzing performance, exploring agentic tools, and automating repetitive work so the team can experiment more and ship more.

Please note submitting a cover letter is required.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Plan, execute, and optimize paid marketing campaigns across channels, including paid social, search, video, and O&O, to drive subscriber acquisition.
  • Manage and grow email and on-platform marketing efforts in support of subscriber growth and engagement.
  • Own campaign performance: monitor results, run tests, and adjust tactics in real time to maximize ROI.
  • Build and execute a testing roadmap for offers, creative, and messaging to improve acquisition and retention.
  • Use audience segmentation and subscriber data to tailor campaigns and messaging to different reader groups.
  • Support paywall, pricing, and promotional strategy by helping design and run experiments.
  • Collaborate with editorial, audio, video, and events teams to bring cohesive, on-brand marketing campaigns to life.
  • Use AI tools to accelerate campaign builds, reporting, and workflow automation across the growth function.
  • Help set and track growth and retention goals.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in performance marketing or growth marketing for a consumer subscription product. In media or at a startup is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience running paid social, search, and video campaigns.
  • Comfortable working in email marketing platforms and CRM/subscription management tools.
  • Strong understanding of the subscriber funnel, from anonymous visitor to registered user to paid subscriber, and what moves people through it.
  • Deep comfort and fluency using AI tools for campaign execution, analysis, and workflow automation, with a proactive mindset toward finding new ways AI can drive growth.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Data-savvy: comfortable using analytics tools to evaluate campaign performance and translate results into next steps. SQL or Excel fluency is a plus.
  • Creative thinker with a strategic mindset and a results-oriented, test-and-learn approach.
  • Exemplary writing and communication skills, with the ability to adapt The Free Press's voice across channels and audiences.
  • Thorough understanding of (or strong interest in) the independent media and news landscape. Interest in and familiarity with The Free Press is a plus.
  • Highly autonomous, curious, and proactive, comfortable in a scrappy, fast-moving environment.
  • Desire to partner cross-functionally with editorial, product, creative, and data teams.
