Overview and Responsibilities:
We are seeking an experienced and strategic lawyer to join our dynamic in-house litigation team. This is an exciting and challenging role in a fast-paced environment, with primary responsibility for advising internal business clients, handling pre-litigation claims, and litigating cases, both as counsel of record and in collaboration with outside counsel. The Senior Counsel, Litigation will work on a wide range of matters, including media litigation (including defamation claims, journalist privilege issues, and FOIA litigation), intellectual property claims, third-party subpoenas, and general commercial disputes affecting the company and its divisions.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Lead and manage a diverse portfolio of litigation matters and pre-litigation claims.
- Oversee all aspects of litigation matters, including e-discovery, fact-finding and analysis, witness preparation, depositions, case management conferences, and motion practice.
- Draft and edit legal papers, including pleadings, briefs, declarations, discovery demands and responses.
- Collaborate with outside counsel and internal stakeholders to ensure alignment with business objectives and legal strategy.
- Respond to third-party claims and subpoenas, including subpoenas seeking newsgathering material.
Basic Qualifications:
- JD from an accredited law school and member in good standing of the New York or California bar.
- Minimum of 8 years litigation experience, with significant exposure to media law, intellectual property litigation, and general commercial disputes.
- Exceptional legal writing and editing skills.
- Proven ability to manage complex litigation, with ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Superior judgment and professionalism to resolve legal issues quickly.
Additional Qualifications:
- Deep understanding of First Amendment and defamation law.
- Prior experience at or representing media companies is strongly preferred.
- Experience with news, entertainment, and/or intellectual property litigation.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Hiring Salary Range: $170,000.00 - 195,000.00.
The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York City, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement. This position is bonus eligible.
