Becoming a part of Paramount means joining a team of passionate people who not only recognize the power of content but also enjoy a touch of fun and uniqueness. Together, we co-create moments that matter – both for our audiences and our employees – and aim to leave a positive mark on culture.

Overview and Responsibilities

The Applied Machine Learning Group is seeking a Software Engineer to build and scale systems that power
content understanding, metadata enrichment, and personalization across Paramount's global content
catalog. In this role, you will work on the core infrastructure and internal tools that enable high-
quality metadata ingestion and curation directly impacting content discovery,
recommendations, and user experience across Paramount's streaming portfolio.

This is a highly cross-functional role at the intersection of content, data, and machine learning,
partnering closely with ML engineers, product teams, and data stakeholders to bring metadata-driven
experiences to life.

The ideal candidate will be:

- Enthusiastic about spanning the full lifecycle of a content data system from ingest and
enrichment through deployment, monitoring, and downstream delivery
- Invested in going beyond moving data to understanding it; developing domain-level
familiarity with the content catalog, and how data quality issues upstream affect systems
downstream
- Committed to continuous improvement; takes ownership of feature implementation,
plans for future maintainability
- Skilled at partnering with Product to translate evolving content strategy into concrete
engineering decisions; asking clarifying questions and iterating toward well-defined
solutions under ambiguity
- Collaborative across engineering teams; working with upstream providers and
downstream consumers to define integration contracts, and ensuring the sequencing of
changes so that features ship cohesively
- Eager to leverage AI agents in the software development process for understanding
code, troubleshooting, developing new features, and fixing issues

Responsibilities Include:
Metadata Ingestion & Enrichment
- Design, build, and maintain backend services that support content understanding,
metadata modeling, and enrichment workflows
- Contribute to systems that process and manage metadata for a large-scale, global
content catalog
Backend Services & Data Modeling
- Maintain and expand the API layer and data models across two provider contexts
(Paramount+ and PlutoTV) as the codebase converges toward a unified multi-tenant
architecture
- Uphold engineering quality through test coverage, code reviews, and consistent
application of coding standards
Internal Tooling & Curation
- Support editorial curation workflows that feed the personalization experience, ensuring
curators have the tooling and data quality needed to make effective content decisions

Basic Qualifications

- 3+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience
- Strong proficiency in a Python web API and ORM framework (Django/ORM/DRF
preferred)
- Knowledge of cloud infrastructure including managed databases, object storage, and
container orchestration (GCP, AWS, or Azure)
- API design with backwards compatibility across multiple consumer teams
- Relational data modeling for transactional systems
- Experience building data engineering pipelines, including best practices like defensive
coding at ingestion boundaries, instrumentation to surface anomalies early, and
awareness of data drift so that quality issues are caught before they propagate
downstream

Additional Qualifications

- Django and Django REST Framework for production backend applications
- Google Cloud Platform: Cloud SQL, BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Secret Manager, GKE
- Google Cloud Pub/Sub subscriber/publisher patterns
- Elasticsearch index management, full-text search, mapping updates
- Experience building content metadata management systems
- Exposure to personalization, recommendation systems, or ML-adjacent platforms
- Experience working in event-driven architectures, designing systems around async
pipelines
