This is a 12-month maternity leave cover role based in Sydney.
Are you a seasoned journalist with a passion for breaking news and delivering compelling stories? 10 News First is looking for an experienced Reporter to join our Sydney newsroom on a maternity leave contract.
In this role, you'll be at the forefront of news coverage—investigating, producing, and delivering high-quality stories that matter. Reporting to the Executive Editor, you’ll thrive in a fast-paced environment, working both independently and collaboratively to create impactful television news content.
Functions will include:

Pitch, research, and produce original, high-quality news stories for broadcast.

Work under tight deadlines to deliver clear, accurate, and engaging TV news content.

Report live with confidence on breaking news events.

Take the lead on complex news stories, from concept to broadcast, with minimal supervision.

Proactively source and line up stories, ensuring comprehensive and dynamic coverage.

Cover other newsroom roles as required.
What are we looking for in a Reporter? What’s important?

Strong news judgment and a deep understanding of the TV news landscape.

Exceptional communication skills—both on-air and behind the scenes.

Ability to work under pressure and make quick, accurate editorial decisions.

Proven track record in television news reporting.

In-depth knowledge of local, national, and international current affairs.

Proficiency in non-linear editing systems, with experience in TV news production.

Flexibility to work across different shifts, including weekends, to meet newsroom demands.

Strong grasp of media law and its application in news reporting.
