Streaming Media Tech Lead
Pyrmont, NSW, AU, 2009
Paramount is a global media and entertainment organisation with some of the best-known and loved brands in the world. In Australia, we deliver premium content on any screen, anytime, anywhere, via an enhanced viewing ecosystem.
We pride ourselves on creating content that gets people talking. What’s more, you’ll find all these great shows (and more) on our free-to-air channels (10, 10 BOLD Drama, 10 Peach Comedy, Nickelodeon), our free streaming platform 10 Play, that also includes a vast array of Free Ad-Supported Streaming TV, known as FAST channels, and our subscription video on demand service, Paramount+.
We’re now looking for a hands-on technical leader who’s passionate about streaming technology, video systems, and delivering world-class digital experiences to Australian audiences.
This role is Sydney-based with hybrid working available.
About the role:
In this role, you’ll own the design, build, and operation of our streaming infrastructure — working across live and on-demand content for 10Play, Paramount+, and other platforms. This is a unique role that bridges traditional broadcast environments with modern cloud-native streaming — bringing together the best of both worlds. You’ll be part of a high-performing Technology team that supports some of Australia’s most loved brands, reporting to the Head of Infrastructure. You’ll collaborate closely with engineering, product, and operations teams to drive innovation, performance, and reliability in everything we deliver.
Functions will also include:
- Architecting and operating streaming and video infrastructure across live, linear, and on-demand platforms.
- Continue to grow and promote streaming, encoding, and video delivery best practices across technical and operational teams.
- Collaborating with Product, Platform, and Global Technology teams to align on architecture, integrations, and roadmap priorities.
- Building scalable workflows leveraging AWS Media Services, Elemental encoders, and cloud-native tools.
- Leading the transition from legacy broadcast systems to flexible, hybrid solutions.
- Designing disaster recovery and failover strategies.
- Optimising video encoding, transcoding, and content delivery pipelines.
- Driving monitoring, observability, and performance tuning for streaming and broadcast environments.
- Managing media asset management (MAM) systems including VizOne and Avid MediaCentral.
- Acting as SME and escalation point for complex streaming and video-related challenges.
- Mentoring and guiding Broadcast Engineering and Operational teams.
About you:
You thrive in complex technical environments, you’re calm under pressure, and you have a passion for building exceptional viewer experiences.
What you’ll bring:
- Extensive hands-on experience with end-to-end streaming and video delivery technologies, including AWS Media Services (MediaLive, MediaPackage, MediaStore), Elemental Live and Cloud and on prem encoders, CDNs, and core streaming protocols such as MPEG-TS, HLS, and DASH.
- Strong understanding in linear broadcast systems, including baseband and IP video routing, signal workflows (SDI, SMPTE 2110), and integration with hybrid cloud broadcast environments.
- Proven experience managing Media Asset Management (MAM) and Production Asset Management (PAM) systems, such as Viz One and Avid MediaCentral, with a focus on optimising ingest, archive, and content distribution workflows.
- Hands-on proficiency with industry-standard video processing and analysis tools including FFmpeg, MediaInfo, Telestream Vantage, and related transcoding, quality control, and workflow automation solutions.
- Strong understanding of Server-Side Ad Insertion (SSAI) and Dynamic Ad Insertion (DAI) technologies, including integration with ad decisioning platforms and ensuring seamless ad stitching across live and VOD streams.
- Demonstrated ability to architect and implement resilient, highly-available streaming platforms with automated failover, redundancy, disaster recovery (DR) strategies, and real-time monitoring for uptime assurance.
- A collaborative mindset — comfortable working across technical and non-technical teams.
- A passion for continuous improvement, documentation, and mentoring.
