KCAL, CBS News Los Angeles is in search of a creative, dynamic and organized individual to lead our Future News team.  In this role, you will report directly to the VP’s of News and oversee all investigative, consumer, community, guest bookings and character driven-storytelling content for the Los Angeles duopoly.  As a senior member of the leadership team, you will be charged with developing a plan to own tomorrow’s news.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Organize all non-daily content and develop a plan for production, promotion and presentation
  • Manage the consumer and investigative teams ensuring all content meets journalistic accuracy, accountability, is legally sound and meets CBS standards
  • Plan coverage for major news events and tentpole initiatives
  • Lead the newsroom discussion to answer what is the big story tomorrow and how we cover it through our unique brand?
  • Cultivate a work environment that encourages fresh ideas and community engagement
  • Coach, mentor and supervise our character-driven storytelling efforts
  • Provide guidance and feedback to staff on effective ways to visualize and tell stories
  • Supervise the news department’s planning efforts and community impact
  • Create compelling content that’s customized to serve the needs of multiple shows, streaming, and other platforms across CBS News and Stations.
  • Develop a long-term editorial strategy, including marquee enterprise reporting, as well as tactics for rapid response to breaking news
  • Must be willing to work an unpredictable and flexible schedule as assigned

 

Requirements & Education:

  • Preferred minimum 10 years of experience as a news manger working in a major market or similar field
  • Preferred Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Mass Media or Communications
  • Demonstrated leadership and management of journalists at all level

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

 

Hiring Salary Range: $140,000 - 150,000. 

 

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
