Paramount is looking for Counsel to join its Product Legal team supporting the Paramount Direct to Consumer (DTC) division, home to Paramount+ and Pluto TV!

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the day-to-day operations of streaming in the US and internationally by providing analysis and advice on applicable law and compliance.
  • Work closely with product, design and engineering teams and become an expert on our streaming services to understand and assess risks for new consumer-facing experiences, from ideation to launch, and to track feature development and/or product expansion.
  • Provide risk-based legal counsel to support consumer product innovation, counseling the business on consumer protection and other issues while coordinating with subject matter experts as needed.
  • Keep abreast of continuously evolving regulation and laws (in force and upcoming), assessing their impact on Paramount+, Pluto TV and their associated business units, delivering practical guidance and recommended solutions for compliance to different parties, including product, tech and the customer support teams.
  • Compare applicable laws and regulations across multiple jurisdictions to provide a harmonized approach to compliance and develop and maintain compliance documentation.
  • Coordinate with partners (including cross-functional, cross-regional and specialist teams, including other legal teams) to share context on product and legal strategy, ensuring the effective management of team needs.
  • Support the government affairs function to liaise with governmental authorities and consumer bodies in helping to build the future of consumer legislation.
  • Develop and implement innovative processes and scalable solutions to help manage the legal requirements of our global streaming services.
  • Review, advise, and collaborate by providing product legal feedback on distribution, marketing, and content acquisition agreements, vendor services and FinTech agreements.
  • Support partner onboarding and their marketing assets.
  • Respond to consumer association, government and regulatory enquiries and work with support teams on raised consumer enquiries.

 

Required Qualifications

  • The position requires an attorney with 4+ years of pertinent experience, which ideally includes product counsel experience in streaming.
  • The successful candidate will be a diligent and proactive individual with excellent business judgment and critical thinking and contract drafting skills, and with the capability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a collegial, fast-paced team environment.
  • JD degree with excellent academic credentials and global law firm experience in corporate law or commercial transactions; streaming media experience preferred; admitted to the California Bar.
  • Excellent negotiation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills and the ability to manage simultaneous projects under tight deadlines.
  • Flexibility and willingness to work on a broad variety of legal matters.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

 

Hiring Salary Range: $139,500.00 - 174,000.00. 

 

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York City, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.  The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable,  as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement. This position is bonus eligible.
