The media manger needs to be able to ingest all forms of media received from photographers and producers into the server/projects. (Cards, discs, hard drives, etc.)
Attention to detail is essential here as producers and editors are counting on the media manger to load media into the project in an organized and uniform manner and many times they need it immediately. The media manger needs to be detail oriented and very meticulous during this process. Any mistakes can cost time and usually there is very little in a breaking news situation. Detailed labeling of each piece of media is imperative. The ideal candidate needs to have a proven understanding of cameras and the various formats/codecs they shoot to.
We encounter the following every day –
(Cameras - Sony F800, FS7, F5, A7S, Canon C300 and XF 105, Panasonic GH4)
(Codecs – Quicktime, Various H.264 codecs AVCHD, .MTS, MXF, etc.)
- Strong familiarity with routers and patch bays. The job entails using a router every day and at times using a patch bay. Proficiency in routing and downlinking feeds using our in-house router and satellite tuning software is essential for the media manager position.
- Demonstrate proficiency in Avid Interplay and Avid Media Composer/Newscutter. The right candidate will excel at editing material for pitch reels and coordinating b-roll for our catalog in interplay. Know how to navigate Avid interplay to pull media into each project as well as lay media out on a timeline.
- The ability to interact well with producers and appropriately deal with the stress of balancing different projects for different entities (Evening News, CBS Mornings, Sunday Morning, etc.) The job entails balancing different projects at once so the media manger needs to be able to prioritize and recognize which projects require immediate attention and which are secondary, tertiary, etc.
- The job requires being adaptable using an audio mixer and mic’ing guests and talent up for interviews, live shots, etc. It’s imperative that the media manger understands how an audio mixer works and also being able to run cables (audio/video) from the mixer to patch panels on the walls. This is how all bureau live shots are done.
- This is a union position and the hired candidate will be required to join the union.

Hiring Salary Range: $58.88 - 58.88.
The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement.
