CBS News is seeking a Senior Reporter for its Justice Unit to serve as our lead FBI, DOJ and Law Enforcement reporter for the Network!
Responsibilities:
- Break news.
- Research and report stories on the Department of Justice and its agencies, which include, but are not limited to, the FBI, ATF, and DEA.
- Develop sources and advance stories that can be turned quickly for all platforms: newscasts, specials, streaming, websites and apps of CBS News and Stations.
- Gather, verify, and disseminate information on a short deadline while always adhering to CBS News standards.
- Work closely with correspondents and anchors in writing and communicating information that engages our audiences.
- Cultivate sources, land sought-after interviews, and navigate open records laws, including but not limited to FOIA requests. Seek out collaborations with CBS News affiliates and partners.
- Drive story development opportunities that meet broadcast objectives, including breaking news, impactful investigations, innovative storytelling, and rich reporting.
- Collaborate with editorial leadership, journalists, and legal counsel in creating accurate, well-documented, compelling journalism.
- Communicate frequently and effectively with respect and candor, and maintain productive working environments and relationships with organizational partners.
- Always represent CBS News & Paramount with professional decorum.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- 5+ years of reporting experience at a news organization with proven experience in the field, managing story development.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in journalism and/or a related field preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with an ability to effectively communicate at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to work optimally and expertly in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent command of legal and journalism standards process
- Ability to balance priorities, projects, and tasks.
- Attention to detail is a must.
- Flexibility is critical; one must be willing to work an unpredictable and adaptable schedule as news warrant.
- Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays as news warrants
- Must have a valid driver’s license with unrestricted ability to drive a car.
- Must have a U.S. passport with unrestricted ability to travel.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Hiring Salary Range: $200,000.00 - 220,000.00.
The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement.
